Deadly heatwave sweeps across Mexico, claiming over 100 lives

Mexico is currently in the grip of a deadly heatwave that has left several regions reeling. With temperatures soaring above 45 degrees Celsius, citizens have been left struggling to carry out their daily activities and work, while the sweltering heat has claimed over a hundred lives.

Mexico’s Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday that at least 112 people have died due to the ongoing heatwave that swept across the country from March 19 to June 24. The worst-affected state is Nuevo Leon, with 64 deaths reported, and 73 percent of the fatalities were aged 65 or above.

Over 1,559 cases of heatstroke, dehydration and other heat-related illnesses have been reported, requiring hospitalization. As the hot summer continues to bring scorching temperatures, people across the country are bracing themselves for the possibility of more extreme weather conditions in the coming months, and they have expressed their concerns about the extreme heat.
