



Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation organized the Clarification event on the completion of vaccination in Foot and Mouth Diseases (FMD) control zones in 8 townships in Nay Pyi Taw council area at the meeting hall of Office No.15 in Nay Pyi Taw Council area on Monday.
The Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department drafted National Level FMD Control Plans according to the South-East Asia, China and Mongolia Foot and Mouth Disease (SEACFMD) Roadmap and implementations are underway with progressive zone approach to eradicate FMD in 2030 across the country.
Director General, Livestock Breeding & Veterinary Department, Dr. Ye Tun Win, said " We’re implementing to eradicate FMD by 2021-2030 across the country. That’s why, we have the work processes to implement year by year. Among them, we prioritize the important places. The vaccination to the animals in control zones must be completed. The effect of vaccine will be beneficial and measures must be taken to prevent other animals inside the control zone. And plans are underway to form a committee to operate this process."
Likewise, the FMD control zones will be expended in Meikhtila and Bago districts starting from 2023. During 2025, the FMD control zones will be implemented in 35 districts with 50 percent of the country area.
Deputy Director, Livestock Breeding & Veterinary Department, Dr. Tin Tun, said " To establish Nay Pyi Taw council area as the FMD control zone, vaccines were provided for free starting from March 2022. The FMD vaccination program operates regularly once in 6 months. So, the infection rate has been decreased in the area. And I would like to urge the locals to participate in the program."
As Myanmar, according to the OIE/FAO Global Foot and Mouth Disease Control Strategy by 2030, National Level FMD Control Plan is being implemented starting from 2016. Currently, there are 3 disease-free zones and 4 disease control zones have been implemented. By establishing FMD control zones, it can improve livestock sector and socio economic life of the locals and can develop the trading processes of the country.
