

The World Food Programme has announced it is scaling up its emergency food assistance in quake-affected areas of Syria and Turkiye. The increase in assistance is projected to reach more than 300,000 quake-affected people in both countries, and hopes to reach a total of close to 900,000 people.Syria has already suffered severe damage to infrastructure over 12 years of conflict, especially in areas closest to the quake epicenter in Turkiye.
WFP Syria Deputy Country Director Ross Smith said more assistance is needed.The earthquake has further compounded problems in Syria, which was already experiencing one of the world’s largest hunger crises.
