




The Basic Literacy Program for those who are aged 15 and above is being implemented at Hopong Township in Pa-OSelf-Administered Zone.
The program is implemented with the cooperation of the local volunteers who completed high school level and above and the social associations. It aims to develop the living standard of the local people and to improve basic literacy rate.
Deputy Director General, Department of Alternative Education, Thant Zin Tun, said "It is essential to boost the implementation of basic literacy program in all region and state. So, we met and discussed about the program with the officials from related region/state governments according to the in structions by the Union Minister for Education.After that, we make lists of the places that needed to implement the program. And also the places which have smooth transportation access and can provide health care services."
At present, the basic education program is being implemented with 86 trainers in Kalaw, Hopong and Taunggyi Townships. Over 460 trainees are now joining the program which is targeted to be implemented in 40-day period, and the training time is 3 hours per day.
