Travelers leave Beijing for long-awaited reunions

Travelers leaving Beijing for long awaited family reunions in their hometowns streamed across the Beijing Railway station on Wednesday, after China ended its anti-virus restrictions last month.

The Chinese government expects over 2.1 billion journeys to be made during a 40-day travel period around New Year’s Day which is on Sunday Jan 22. One of the travelers said this year marks the first time to return to her hometown in Heilongjiang Province since the onset of the pandemic three years ago. The official holiday runs from Jan 21-27.
