Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni announced they were forming a strategic partnership during talks in Rome. Kishida and Meloni agreed to share more information and cooperation including defence and security as well as improving cultural ties.

Japan and Italy, together with the UK, announced in December last year a joint project to develop a newer fighter jet by 2035. Kishida visited Paris before arriving to Rome, and his five nation-tour will also take him to Britain, Canada and the U.S.
