Passengers piled off the first train arriving early Sunday at a newly reopened crossing point on the border between Hong Kong and mainland China. Lok Ma Chau station had been shut close to three years since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

But travel to the crossing was finally reinstated from Sunday as both China and Hong Kong continue to ease their COVID-19 measures, releasing massive pent-up demand. Those traveling between Hong Kong and mainland China are still required to provide a negative COVID-19 test within 48 hours of their journey.
