Lotus Fibers to Inle: Value for a viss is about 400,000 kyats in the market

Lotus fibers from Shan Ywar Kone village of Wethtigan in Salin Township, Magway Region is exporting to Inle.

The dry lotus fibers can be sold with good price in the markets and one viss of dry lotus fiber is cost about 400,000 kyats depending on the market situations. Wethtigan is providing lotus steams which are essential in producing lotus fiber and currently, only lotus fiber are produced in Salin Township. The lotus fiber can be produced around 25 to 30 ticals per day and around 3 to 6 viss per month.

Thaung Sein, Mya Htae War Lotus Fiber Business, Salin Township, said " We make the lotus steams from Wethtigan step by step to get lotus fibers. After that we export the lotus fibers to Inle. We learnt how to produce lotus fibers from lotus steams in Inle and run this lotus fiber producing business in 2009. I was a beginner at that time and I continuous run this business till now."

Inle is producing textiles and consumer goods by using lotus fibers from Wethtigan. The lotus thread business in Shan Ywar Kone village of Salin Township is implemented to produce finished goods from raw lotus fibers and handover to the next generations, it’s learnt.
