Japan Emperor greets public in New Year's tradition

Japan's Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako greeted well-wishers during the traditional New Year's greeting ceremony by the royal family at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.

Their appearance on the balcony of the Imperial Palace to offer greetings for the New Year was the first of its kind in three years. The public greeting was cancelled in 2021 and 2022 due to the pandemic.
