2nd Bovine Beauty Pageant: Event in Yangon concluded with 42 prizes

The 2ndBovine Beauty Pageant at Pyin Ma Pin Livestock farm in Mingaladon Township of Yangon Region was concluded on Sunday.  The event was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation and it aims to promote livestock sector by farming good quality dairy cattle and producing good quality dairy products.

The contest was held under 7 categories, and livestock breeders from various villages and townships in Yangon Region took part in the contest. A total of 119 various cattle and 76 goats were on display at the Bovine Beauty Pageant.

Dr. Min Nyo Oo, Deputy Head (Yangon Region) said "In this 2nd Bovine Beauty Pageant, I acted as a Chief Judge and also a judge for dairy cow and dairy heifer competitions. There’re 7 kinds of contest for cattle and 6 kinds for sheep and goats - a total of 42 prizes were awarded."

Participants of the contest grabbed the opportunities to promote domestic dairy cattle, goat and sheep farming by exchanging breeding techniques among breeders.

Thuya Soe, Thanlyin Township, MaHarNanTaw Goat Farm said "This year, we won a total of 6 prizes in the goat contest. We prepared for about 3 months –we’ve ever taken part in such a contest and also won prizes last year. I am very happy to get the prizes and this is the result of well preparation. The dairy goats are highly valued in foreign countries, and should be in our country. I would like to build a brand of Myanmar’s goats to be number.1 in the world."

In the cattle contest, 500,000 kyats for the 1st prize, 300,000 kyats for 2nd prize, 200,000 kyats for 3rd prize and 100,000 kyats for 4th prize were awarded - for the sheep and goats contests, 300,000 kyats for the 1st prize, 200,000 kyats for 2nd prize, 100,000 kyats for 3rd prize and 4th prize are 70,000 kyats.
