Smooth Transportation: Gwa Chaung Bridge commissioned into service

Hailing the 75th Anniversary Independence Day, Gwa Chaung Bridge on Gwa-KyaukChun Road was commissioned into service on Wednesday.

Members of the State Administration Council Admiral Tin Aung San and Daw Aye Nu Sein attended the opening ceremony of the bridge together with the Rakhine State Chief Minister and officials. Admiral Tin Aung San expressed appreciations for opening of the 1,399 ft long facility since smooth transportation plays the most crucial role for development of the region.

He called for cooperation of all concerned persons for long term maintenance of the bridge. Daw Aye Nu Sein also spoke on the occasion, followed by the reports of regional development works by the Chief Minister. A local also expressed gratitude for opening of the new bridge.

After formal opening of the bridge by the SAC members and officials, they strolled along the newly opened facility, and greeted the local residents. Gwa Chaung Bridge connects NgaYokeKaung of NgaPuTaw Township in Ayeyawady Region and Gwa Township of Thandwe District in Rakhine State.

The bridge has 24 ft wide motor way with 3.6 ft pedestrian lane on each side. Its water clearance is 20 ft high and 85 ft wide and can withstand 75 tons of load. The bridge is of reinforced concrete type and it costs over 8.9 billion kyats budget allotment from the Union Government and the State Government. The Bridge Special Group (8) under the Ministry of Construction built the bridge which commenced construction in November 2019.
