Agriculture Sector: Kon Chaung Dam to distribute water as of 15th Dec.

Water in Kon Chaung dam of Ayeyawady Region will be distributed starting from 15th December to cultivate total of 5,909 acres of summer paddy and winter sunflower in Myan Aung and Kyangin townships.

The distribution of water from Kon Chaung dam starts on 1st January every year but this year, it has been stored 98,400 acres feet of water for winter sunflower cultivation.  

Thein Htay, Staff Officer, Irrigation & Water Management Department, said " Starting from 15th January, water will be distributed to 5,909 acres of summer paddy and winter sunflower in Myan Aung and Kyangin township, among them 3,042 acres for summer paddy and 2,867 acres for winter sunflower. In Ayeyawady region, after harvested winter crops, being continued cultivation of summer and monsoon, the socio-economic life of the farmers will be developed."

According to the staff officer of the Irrigation and Water Management Department, the implementations are underway for good water flow. Likewise, there are Water User Groups and the department contacts with the group leaders to utilize water from Kon Chaung dam effectively and fairly. To distribute water in time, drain excavation and repairing processes have been implemented.  

Similarly, to get water equally for the growers, technologies are being provided and the farmers get sufficient water supply every year.
