Top nuclear envoys from the United States, Japan and South Korea met in Indonesia’s capital on Tuesday to discuss ways to bring North Korea back to denuclearization talks, vowing to strengthen cooperation on dealing with Pyongyang's threatening nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
They warned North Korea, which is becoming more aggressive in its nuclear threat, that further provocations will not only strengthen their trilateral cooperation, but will be met by a firm and united response from the international community.
Tensions on the Korean Peninsula have skyrocketed in recent months as the North continues its weapons demonstrations and the U.S. and South Korea held stepped-up joint defense exercises. North Korea last conducted a nuclear test, its sixth, in 2017, and experts have noted signs of preparations for another test.
