The Bago Region Government commemorated the World AIDS Day at the town hall in Bago Township. There, in his address, Chief Minister U Myo Swe Win stressed that efforts must be made to promote health awareness about HIV/AIDS and public participation until the HIV is completely eradicated in the region.

The care and treatment of HIV infected patients must be coordinated with local and international partners. Health workers in cooperation with the public must work to obtain timely and accurate information on infectious disease and to conduct sophisticated research.

He also called for efforts for providing basic health care, freedom from discrimination and for reducing AIDS-related deaths. World AIDS Day, designated on the 1st of December every year since 1988, is an international day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning those who have died of the disease.

The acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a life-threatening condition caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The HIV virus attacks the immune system of the patient and reduces its resistance to other diseases.
