On humanitarian grounds, understanding the benevolence of the state and in honour of the National Victory Day, a total of 5774 prisoners from the prisons/jails from across the country have been released with the pardon order 70/2022 on 17th November.
Likewise, a total of 455 prisoners from Mandalay Central Prison were released, it’s learnt. The prisoners who are eligible to the pardon order from Mandalay Central Prison were released in the morning. According to the procedures, Mandalay Region Minister for security and border affairs Col. Kyaw Kyaw Min talked some sense to the released prisoners.
Next, the COVID-19 test was conducted at the prisoners, provided daily allowance and travel allowance and released them. In the Mandalay Region, there are 6 prisons, there are 988 prisoners who are eligible for the pardon order including 874 men and 114 women prisoners.
Among them, 455 prisoners from Mandalay Central Prison, 167 from MyinGyan Prison, 89 from Meiktila, 209 from Yamethin, 46 from Nyaung-U and 22 from Nay Pyi Taw prisons were released, it’s reported.
