





Myanmar celebrates its traditional Tazaungdaing festival on the full-moon day of Tazaungmone, eighth month of Myanmar calendar on Monday.
This full moon day is also called SamannaPhala day because the Lord Buddha preached SamaññaphalaSutta to King Ajatasattu.
The full moon of Tazaungmone was celebrated at the Shwedagon Pagoda and other pagodas and stupas in Yangon.
The pagodas in Yangon were crowded with people who perform meritorious deeds on the full moon day. Pagodas across the country are also crowded with Buddhist devotees and pilgrims and the well-known traditional festive activity called robe-weaving competitions, known as MathoThingan or non-stale robe competitions were also held.
At the robe-weaving competitions which started in eve of the full-moon day and the woven robes are offered to the Buddha statues at the pagodas in early morning of full-moon day.
As part of celebrations, people offer alms, lights, joss sticks, flowers and fruits to the pagodas. On the day, streets are also packed with alms offering for monks and Satuditha or charity feasts serving for people as part of merit-makings.
