





The Ministry of Electric Power is implementing the hydropower projects based on the availability of natural resources.
Keng Tawng Hydropower project is one of the projects being implemented by the ministry, and the project is targeted to completed in March 2025.
The project is situated on Nam Teng Creek, 14 miles southwest of Keng Tawng Township in southern Shan State.
The project is being undertaken by No.5 Construction of the Department of Hydropower Implementation.
Official, Department of Hydropower Implementation said "The project is being implemented by the department with the budget allotment of the union budget. The project commenced in 2008-2009 fiscal year, and we are making efforts to complete the project in 2024-2025 fiscal year. There are 8 major tasks, and among them are construction of conduits, main dam, spillway, tunnel, high-speed steel pipeline, power plant, switch yard and drainage system. Upon completion, it could generate 267 million kilowatt hours of electricity, and will distribute electric power to through nation grid. "
The main dam of this hydropower plant is 1,800 feet long and 230 feet high and its full water storage capacity is 104,000-acre feet.
At present 72.2 % of the project have completed and upon completion, the Upper Kyaingtaung Hydropower Plant will generate an annual average of 267 million kilowatt hours of electricity.
