Although the onions from China flow into Mandalay market, local onions are still good price.
The Onions from China have entered Mandalay market at the beginning of the waxing of Thadingyut but the prices of local onions do not decline according to the owner of the broker’s sale center in Mandalay.
In the last month, the price of onions is at about 5000 kyats per viss and now the price is at around 3,700 kyats to 4000 kyats per viss. The onions from Myanmar are getting a good price because the taste and the flavor are better than the Chinese onions.
Soe Win Myint, Owner, Broker’s sale center said "If we compare the onions produced from Myanmar and China, the local onions are more delicious, flavor and gravy. The price of Chinese onions is reasonable but it can’t penetrate into the market. Onion prices did not fall as expected in the market. In the last month, the price of onion was about 5000 kyats per viss and now the price is stable at about 3700 to 4000 kyats per viss. "
In the current market, Myanmar onions and Chinese onions differ in price by half. There are three types of Chinese onions and the prices are from 1,000 to 7000 kyats per viss.
Only the restaurants use the Chinese onions and the local onions are had for home use. Currently, the onions produced from Monywa, Pakokku, Myingyan, Thaungtha and Myittha flow into Mandalay market and are exported to Bangladesh and India.
