Supporting Migrant Workers: over 59,000 Myanmar Migrant Workers sent to Thailand

Starting from 10 May 2022 to October, over 59,000 Myanmar migrant workers have been sending to Thailand under the MOU system via the Myawaddy-Mae Sot route.

The necessary arrangements were carried out in the process of sending migrant workers systematically till they arrive at their work places in Thailand smoothly, comfortably and safely, said, the assistant director of the labor migration office.

Assistant director, Office of Migrant Workers Division (Myawaddy Township), ThanHtke said "At the post Covid-19 period, a total of MOU workers including 35721 males and 24039 females were sent to Thailand via Myawaddy Mae -Sot route from 10th May 2022 to date. We can send about 800 workers a day via the Myawaddy -Mae Sot route. We can send about 800 workers a day via the Myawaddy -Mae Sot route. As you all see, the workers who enter into Thailand to work illegally and they are sent back to the country when they are arrested. So, I’d like to urge to go to Thailand to work as well as other countries such as Malaysia, Korea, Singapore, Japan etc. legally through the agencies. By doing so, they can entitle the legal protection and workers’ rights. "

To provide assistance for the workers in their difficulties, there are Myanmar labour attachés in Myanmar Embassies in foreign countries. Five labour attachés have been appointed in Myanmar Embassy in Thailand to provide assistance for Myanmar migrant workers, it’s learnt.
