Mon Literature and Culture: Golden Jubilee Celebration took place in Yangon

With the supervision of the Ministry of Ethnic Affairs, the Mon Literature and Culture Committee (Yangon) celebrated its 50th anniversary (Golden Jubilee) at the Union National Races Village on Sunday.

Union Minister of Ethnic Affairs U Saw Tun Aung Myint attended the opening ceremony, and gave a speech.

An official from the Mon Literature and Culture Committee explained about the reasons for holding the 50th anniversary (Golden Jubilee) celebration.

Chairman, Organizing Committee, Dr. Min Khin Sein said "Aiming to preserve the Mon traditional culture and literature, not to forget Mon language and to get knowledge on Mon’s history, this celebration is being held at the national races village where all ethnicities come to relax and refresh mind."

The Mon Literature and Culture Committee (Yangon) was established on 27th February, 1972, aiming for preservation, safeguarding and propagation of Mon literature and culture, development and long-term sustainability of Mon literature and culture and contributing to the national unity through the study of Mon’s literature and culture by other ethnic people.

Advisor, Mon Literature and Culture Committee (Yangon), Naing Soe Aung said "In this ceremony, the Mon literature, art related materials and the activities of Mon Literature and Culture Committee (Yangon) within 50 years are on display.  Mon literature was firstly found in the 6th century AD. For the literature, we display Na Rine Guu stone inscription, which was found in Isan Region of Thailand, Pyay Shwe San Taw stone inscription, found between the 11th and 12th centuries AD, Myazedi stone inscription which described with four languages; Pyu, Mon, Myanmar and Pali and Kyaik Za Ngan stone inscription. For art, Mon traditional musical instruments such as Xylophone (Pattala) and gong chimes are on display."

During the ceremony, cash assistance and the certificate of honor were presented to the respective officials who served duties in the Mon literature and culture committee (Yangon) during the 50 years period.
