RISE ASEAN Short Video Contest: Cash awards and certificates presented to the winners

The prize presentation ceremony of the National Level Short Videos Contest of RISE ASEAN “Right Information Saves and Empowers ASEAN” took place at the Myanma Radio and Television (Yangon) on Friday.

The contest was organized under the project, proposed by the Philippines with the proliferation of fake news and other false information compounding the challenges faced by the ASEAN region in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic.

Director General of Myanma Radio and Television U Ye Naing attended the ceremony and gave an opening speech. 

Ye Naing, Director-General, Myanma Radio and Television said "Today is the awarding ceremony for RISE ASEAN “Right Information Saves and Empowers ASEAN” short videos contest. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic around the world including the ASEAN member countries, there were a lot of crises in each sector especially in economic sector. The reason for organizing the contest is to combat the fake news spreading on the social media and to inform the true news. I want to say thanks to the officials for organizing this contest, and also to the contestants for their participation."

The RISE ASEAN short video contest invited youths who are social media friendly so that they could counter fake news more effectively while promoting more public awareness.

The winners were presented with 1.5 million kyats for first prize, 1 million kyats for second prize and 800,000 kyats for third prize. 

Thu Htoo Zin, First Prize Winner said "I won the first prize, and my winning piece is titled “Countering the Infodemic”. I want to deliver the message through this video not to forget to wear masks during COVID-19 pandemic and it is essential to wear masks even the one who had vaccinated. I like to create digital arts and it was my first creation. I’ve got an idea to compete with my own creation which is the combination of 2D animations and creative technology. I want to invite the young people to compete this kind of competition.  "

Htein Lin Oo, Second Prize Winner said "I compete with the video entitled “Awareness on Fake News”. The message I would to convey through this video is that it is needed to check the sources of the news that have been spreading on social media before sharing it. It is intended not only for the elder persons but also the youths that they should not believe the news on social media without knowing it for sure. "

Thit Hmwae Aung, Third Prize Winner said "I won the third prize with the short video entitled “T.H.I.N.K”. The message I want to share through this video is to think before they share the news on social media. I am pleased for winning the third prize. "

The winning short videos are going to broadcast through the State-owned Television Channels of the ASEAN member States as well as the websites and social media.
