ASEAN MRA-TP program: Skill standards for ASEAN tourism experts

According to the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement-TP program, Myanmar has implementing the reviewing and updating of skill standards for the experts of ASEAN tourism industry since 2019 as a leading country.

Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr. Htay Aung led a national level coordination meeting on the reviewing and updating of skill standards through hybrid system on Friday.

In his opening speech, Union Minister Dr Htay Aung said that according to the participation in tourism industry since the beginning of ASEAN cooperation, it has implemented for 32 types of jobs since 2012 based on the ASEAN MRA-TP program.

In implementing, it is necessary to compile the basic skill standards for ASEAN tourism professionals and to train them in accordance with the standards. As the leading country, Myanmar has drafted work guidelines and projects with the assistance of experts.

And now, the 1st draft has come out and based on the 1st draft, member countries, the relevant hotel and tourism industries and private entrepreneurs have been encouraged to hold national level coordination meetings. Based on the recommendations, the 2nd draft will be released, and Myanmar is planning to host the ASEAN-level regional workshop in late November through the hybrid system, he said.

Later, the Director General of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism reported on the follow-up plans for the review and update of professional standards for ASEAN Tourism Professionals and future programs.

The relevant experts reported on compiling the 1st draft and attendees gave suggestions. About 200 representatives from relevant ministries and departments as well as Myanmar Travel Association and Myanmar Hoteliers Association participated in the event.
