Land Management: National Land Utilization Council held its meeting

National Land Utilization Council held its meeting in Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday.

Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice Senior General Soe Win in his capacity as the Council Chairman attended the meeting and gave a speech. He said Myanmar is the second largest in the area among the Southeast Asia region with over 260,000 square miles.

The country also possesses abundant land and water resources with favourable weather condition, suitable for agriculture and livestock breeding tasks.

According to the estimation of the FAO, there are about 0.18 hectare of land that can be carried out agriculture for a person in 2020, about half of the area decreased, compared with the satiation in 1960.

Another half of the area is expected to decrease by 2050. The Deputy Prime Minister stressed the needs to make systematic management for land resources to reduce the impact of climate change in the country.

The Strategy 5.5 of the Myanmar’s Sustainable Development Plan (2018-2030) mentions to improve land governance and sustainable management of resource-based industries ensuring natural resources dividend benefits all people.

For successful implementation of the tasks, it is needed to emerge a systematic land management plan. He stressed the needs to practice the National Land Use Policy that has been released in January 2016.

He called for cooperation of all the members of the council to make efforts in their respective sectors so as to support the emergence of systematic land governance and management system.

The Secretary of the Council Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi later explained the implementation of the meeting’s minutes.

It was followed by the reports on work undertakings on land utilization, land management, drafting of land utilization Law and implementation of mapping system. The meeting ended with the closing remarks by the Deputy Prime Minister.
