Migrant Workers Issue: Legal channel is via legal agencies

Local agencies which send migrant workers to abroad from Myanmar must be the legal agencies which are registered at the ministry of labor and foreign agencies which accept the migrant workers have to be the legal agencies in line with the existing law of the relevant countries. 

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour, Nyunt Win said "The local agencies must be legal ones to ensure the safety of the migrant workers. The foreign agencies which accept the workers from Myanmar also have to be the legal agencies to ensure the workplaces for the workers. Migrant workers usually lose their opportunities and protection and face difficulties because of the illegal agencies."

Previously, foreign employers came to Myanmar to sign contracts with workers. Now, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the foreign employers only send the contracts which are already confirmed by their relevant departments to Myanmar. The relevant departments under the Ministry of Labour receive the contract and sign Employment contract with the workers and send them to abroad systematically.

Going abroad to work via legal agencies is a legal channel. If the workers face any difficulties, the agencies and relevant departments will help to solve their problems systematically.The agencies have to make sure that the workers get all the opportunities that are staged in the employment contract. They are also responsible to help the workers who return to Myanmar to arrive safely.
