Organized by Myanmar Seafarers Federation, experience sharing session was held at the hall of Myanmar Seafarers Federation, KyaukTaDa Township in Yangon Region on 7th September 2022.

Capt. Soe Min Aung, Chairman, MSF said “We can see woman seafarers since a decade ago around the world but in Myanmar, woman seafarers can be seen later. We learnt that there are about 300 women who are holding the seafarer passports for now. Woman seafarers are allowed to work only on the passenger ships. But some of them want to work on the cargo ships. That’s why, we are making efforts to conduct the trainings for woman seafarers.”

About 2013, the federation proposed government to issue seafarer passports for women and the government issued passports for woman seafarers starting from October 2021.

Naw Ae Di Nar San, Speaker said “I conduct a talk of sharing knowledge and difficulties which the woman seafarers can face in the sea and then, what should they know for their careers. Our federation warmly welcomes to the woman seafarers and can discuss their difficulties.”

Any graduated women can apply for the seafarer position and 4 skills of English is needed. They also must have position knowledge and join the trainings conducted by the federation. There are rules and regulations for seafarers such as sexual harassment rule that is the first rules must be followed by the seafarers because most of woman seafarers may have to deal with sexual harassment or even abuse while on board. If having the case in the sea like that, the criminals will be in the blacklist.
