Aid agencies in flood-ravaged Pakistan on Sunday warned that they were facing huge challenges trying to reach people in need due to the damage to infrastructure and communications.Pakistan's Baluchistan province lost communication with the rest of the country after severe rains, officials said on Friday.
KhuramGondal, Save the Children Director for Pakistan said "We have some pledges, but that's not good enough at all. We have to move much faster because we have a huge population who's been affected, and there are others looming in disasters as well. We see if the water stays there, there would be an outbreak of other diseases as well. The food shortage, two million acres of crops have been damaged, so the food shortage may kick in. So, we need to move faster. We need to do more sort of requests to pledge resources, the financial resources, so as to meet all these high demands."
Pakistan has appealed to the international community for aid to victims of the unprecedented flooding from monsoon rains that have left nearly 1,300 people dead and millions homeless around the country.Meteorologists predicted more rain in the region in the coming days and authorities urged villagers in the Jamshoro and Dadu districts of Sindh province near the lake to evacuate. The authority said relief and rescue operations continued Sunday with troops and volunteers using helicopters and boats to get stranded people out of flooded areas to relief camps where they were being provided shelter, food and health care.
