Aiming to minimize the adverse health and social consequences of drug abuse, the rehabilitation works are being carried out for the drug addicts.

The processes are being carried out at the Rehabilitation Centers under the Department of Rehabilitation of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, as well as the volunteer organizations.

The centers provide counselling services, physical and mental training, and providing vocational education for the drug addicts to be back to the society.

Myat Min Thiha, Lanmadaw Township said "In the morning, we do exercise and pay homage to Buddha twice a day. We have to listen the educative talks and the disadvantages of using drugs at the hall in the evening. Among the things that you should not try is using drugs. I want to tell young people not to try the drug. If I was recovered, I will go to the meditation center. I am very thankful to my parents for sending me here."

Myanmar Drug Addicts Rehabilitation Association (Central) is one of the rehabilitation facilities that provide aftercare services to the drug addicts once they discharged from the hospitals.

Chairman, Myanmar Drug Addicts Rehabilitation Association (Central), San Shein said "We don’t accept everyone. The hospital handover the people who need to do rehabilitation after they quit drugs and complete their treatments. We accept the people who have transfer letter from the hospitals. It is very difficulties to control the drug addicts. Most addicted individuals need at least two weeks in treatment at the hospital. Quitting drug lasts at least 10 days. In accord with the class schedule, from 6.30 AM to 8:00 PM, there are times for giving lecture, doing exercise and inviting coaches and discussion session. We also hire futsal field for them to play football."

Established since 2005, the association provides the courses for physical and mental development and vocational education.

Myo Min Sett, Myawaddy Township said "We have to receive treatment to stop taking drugs at the hospitals. After that, we are transferred here. They take care of us providing three therapies- religion therapy, work therapy and educational therapy. I have been here for about 2 years. I become healthy because we do exercise daily. If I can go back home, I will distribute the drug education awareness to other people."

There are 14 Rehabilitation Centers operating under the Ministry, and the rehabilitation processes are being carried out for the drug addicts through the center-based and community-based services.
