ASEAN Tourism Cooperation: Awareness Meeting On ASEAN Tourism Awards

As part of ASEAN tourism cooperation, the ASEAN Tourism Awards have been presented at the annual ASEAN Tourism Forums that have been held since 2008, with the aim of ensuring consistent service quality in the regional tourism industry and the development of responsible businesses in the region. Indonesia will host the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2023 and is making arrangements for presenting awards.

An awareness meeting on Myanmar's participation in the ASEAN Tourism Awards for 2023 was held at the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism on Wednesday. Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr Htay Aung gave a remark that today, a total of 10 standards including green hotel standards, sustainable tourism standards, Community-based tourism standard, smart tourism city standard, Home stay standard and so on have been drafted in line with international norms.

Until now, Myanmar was presented 99 awards concerning green hotel, rural and urban tourism award for sustainable tourism, smart tourism city, clean public toilet and meeting hall award. The ASEAN Tourism Forum 2023 will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia in January next year and the standard awards will be awarded. This meeting aimed to raise awareness on marking schemes depending on the standards.

The relevant regions and states are urged to participate for the suitable standard awards.The Union Minister pointed out that the Ministry is implementing ASEAN tourism standards but also endeavouring for development of hotels and tourism industry in line with the standards issued by international organizations like the World Tourism Organization.

The Chairman of Myanmar Tourism Federtaion discussed participation in the standard awareness seminars and implementing the tasks.

Later, officials explained ASEAN tourism standards, winning prizes, ASEAN community-based tourism standards, ASEAN public toilet standard and applying for awards.
