Beekeeping Business: Numbers Of Private Beekeepers Increased

The Apiculture Development Division under the Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation is issuing licenses for those who wants to engage in beekeeping business.

In Myanmar, beekeeping business is implementing by the Government, private and cooperatives sectors.

Starting July 2020, a number of beekeepers has increased because of the permission of Myanmar honey to be sold in Europe markets.

For applying for the license, the application forms have to be submitted to the nearby Department Offices, and then, it will send to the states and regional offices. Once the forms are accepted by the department, the license will be issued within a week, and it has to be renewed annually.

Myo Tint, Deputy Director, Apiculture Development Division said “Private beekeepers have to apply for a license and application forms can be got at the Department Offices in Bago, Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway and Yangon Regions, and Kachin, Kayin and Kayah States. Our department also conducts the beekeeping training courses.”

The license applicants have to complete the Beekeeping Training Courses, conducted by the department. Those who engage in breeding 500 bees and above have to apply for the license.

Myo Tint, Deputy Director, Apiculture Development Division said “Starting from 500 bees with 50 beehives, the beekeepers have to apply for license and they need certificate of beekeeping training course, household list, NRC copy and 3 passport photos. The fee for applying a new license book is 12,000 kyats and 10,000 kyats for license renewal.”

There are 6,200 beehives that have been engaged by the Government department in 31 townships, while over 1,500 beehives by the cooperatives sector and about 200,000 by the private beekeepers.
