COVID-19 Prevention& Control: Mandalay General Hospital Prepares For The New Sub-Variants

The infection rate of the new Omicron’s subvariants is increasing now in the neighbouring countries of Myanmar. To prevent spreading of the disease in the country, Mandalay General Hospital is preparing for prevention and control of the new subvariants.

The sub variants of COVID-19 are BA.5 and BA.4 which are appear to evade protection from vaccines and they infect easier than most of the previous versions. The most common COVID symptoms are runny nose, sore throat, headache, persistent cough and fatigue.

Thet  Aung, Medical Superintendent, Mandalay General Hospital said “According to the current situation, we have noticed that the dominant of omicron’s latest sub variants are again. We can see the Omicron’s latest sub variants BA.4 and BA.5 in our neighboring countries. Currently, the new latest sub variants are not found from the local transmission. In this month, some patients coming back from Thailand found COVID-19 positive when they tested at the airport.”

The Medical Superintendent also added thatpeople returning from abroad should cooperate in the disease control activities in order to prevent the risks of the Omicron’s sub variants and transmission to local people.

Thet Aung, Medical Superintendent, Mandalay General Hospital said “We don’t know yet the processes and side effects of latest sub variants. That’s why, we are carefully monitoring COVID-19 patients. If they have severe symptoms of COVID-19, we can give effective treatment to them and also prevent spreading of the disease to their families and others.”

According to the experiences of previous covid waves, Mandalay General Hospital has prepared medicines and medical equipment for COVID-19 and also arranged the treatments rooms, 130 beds added in the intensive care unit and professional staffs are assigned for the emergency case.
