ASEAN Affairs: 22nd Meeting on Transnational Crime

The 22nd ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime (22ndSOMTC) of the ASEAN Political-Security Community [APSC] hosted by Cambodia was held virtually on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by high level delegations led by secretaries and director-generals from 10 ASEAN member states, Director of Political and Security Community at the ASEAN Secretariat and officials. Senior Officers led by SOMTC Myanmar leader, Deputy Chief-1 of Myanmar Police Force participated in the meeting via videoconferencing from Nay Pyi Taw.

Chair of the meeting, Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia and Chairman of the Transnational Crime Task Force Gen. Por Pheak gave the opening speech. This meeting focused on international, regional and national level collaborations in regard with combating transnational crimes. Preventing and combating the threat of terrorism that infiltrates the Asian region, drug problem, arms smuggling, human trafficking, cybercrime, elimination of the illegal trade in wild animals and timbers were also discussed. The meeting is set to take place till the 21st of July.
