Archaeological Museum: Bagan & Salay Archaeological Museums To Be Upgraded

Bagan Archaeological Museum and Salay Archaeological Museum will be upgraded by using digital mobile system and moreover, 32 museums under the Department of Archaeology and National Museum will be upgraded, according to the official of Department of Archaeology & National Museum (Bagan branch).

Thu ZarZan, Assistant Director, Dept. of Archaeology & National Museum(Bagan) said “There are 32 museums under our department. We will upgrade Bagan and Salay Archaeological Museums by applying digital mobile system. We have already made preliminary survey after holding meeting with the supervisory committees for upgrading of Salay Archaeological Museum. And we will report plan which gallery should be prioritized for upgrading among 10 galleries of Bagan Archaeological Museum.”

The types of the museums are classified as the national museum, cultural museum, archaeological museum and memorial museum in the country. There are 32 museums in Myanmar where the ancient cultural heritages are being preserved.

Thu ZarZan, Assistant Director, Dept. of Archaeology & National Museum (Bagan) said “The museum is the place where the utensils and objects used by human beings from the past are displayed collectively for the next generation to be able to study. The museum is also place to disseminate knowledge for the people. The archaeological museums display the items and objects discovered from excavation sites. There are 14 cultural museums in regions and states and these museums showcase the items related with the traditional culture of national races.”

There are 10 galleries in Bagan Archaeological Museum and it opens at 9:00 am to 4:00 pm daily except Monday. The entrance fee is 500 kyats for a Myanmar national and 5,000 kyats for a foreigner. Admission is free for the students, monks and nuns.
