Plans are underway to establish the Assessment Centers for human resource development and producing skilled workers in garment industry.
The Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Science and Technology are working in cooperation for human resource development, nurturing skillful workers, factory registration and systematic organizing of SME industries under the guidance of the Prime Minister.
With the aim to establish National Unified Skills Development, Recognition and Certification System as a provision for skilled labor movement within ASEAN, National Skills Standards Authority (NSSA) was formed in 2007, and recognition certificates were presented to over 17,000 skilled workers for 30 types of employments and also to the assessors.
Chairperson, NSSA Committee, Khaing Khaing Nwe said “The skills level of our workers must be up to ASEAN standard level. The only way to measure the skills of employees is NSSA. As NSSA, we are looking at 3 things which include the employee’s work knowledge, attitudes in their workplace and their teamwork. Also Myanmar and Thailand are discussing for 2 occupations of garment and welding for benchmarking of NSSA certification. When more skilled workers emerge, foreign investors and buyers will come. For the assessment, we need the assessment centers in the garment factories.”
Qualified skilled workers are crucial for the foreign investors and employers when they are doing business. According to the data, job opportunities for over 47,000 workers have been created through those factories.
Manager, New Green Land Garment Co.,Ltd., Zayar Lin said “Currently, we have set up an assessment center in our factory. We held test exam one time and there are 29 workers successfully passed. I think this process will be successfully done and become widely because the relevant officials explained about this very well.”
Managing Director, Meijie (Myanmar) Clothing & Accessory Co.,Ltd., Ko Ko Naing said “My factory is currently running with almost 1,600 employees. It would be great if we could open the assessment center. We need qualified workers for foreign investment and that qualification can lead a business succeed in a short time.”
In 2022-2023 financial years, 5,000 garment employees are going to be monitored for skills proficiency and development.
