



Marking the 75th anniversary of Martyrs’ Day, preparations are being made to display the memorial things of the martyred leaders on the Martyrs’ Day commemorative gallery at the Secretariat office (former Ministers’ Office) in Yangon, starting from 2nd July and now, preparations have completed 90%.
On the significant day, at total of 28 items in 13 categories of memorial things will be displayed in the gallery in the remembrance of fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence.
Deputy Director, Dept. of Archaeology and National Museum, Ohnmar said “13 items of memorial things found at the time of the martyrs’ death will be displayed with 5 show cases. The room where the martyrs were assassinated will be displayed in its original form on the Martyr’s Day. The 13 items will be documents about parliamentary affairs on that day, a book named “A little blue-colored book”, Myanmar old currencies, 2 matches, 2-packs of cigarettes, key, handkerchiefs and 1 gold ring marking seal. As these are historical items, we keep safely and systematically. The visitors are not allowed to take photos but let them study in details.”
The visitors can study about 1st Myanmar Parliament, the office of General Aung San, the tragic event of the fallen heroes and the architectural designs of more than 130-year old secretariat building. The secretariat office will be opened free for the public on Martyr’s Day.
Chief Operation Officer, Anawmar Art Group Co., Ltd, Ngu Kay Khine said “Preparations are being made at the secretariat office with the permission of the Yangon Region Government to open free for the public on Martyr’s Day. The secretariat office is opened daily for the local and foreign visitors to study about the Myanmar’s memorable history. But it was restricted for visitors due to COVID-19 outbreak in previous years 2020 and 2021 and reopened in January 2022.”
Martyrs' Dayis one of the most significant days in Myanmar history and is a memorial day for Myanmar people. It commemorates to honour fallen national heroes including General Aung San and eight others who sacrificed their liveson July 19 in 1947within the country independence movement.
Myanmar people celebrate the important historical event by laying the wreaths and paying salute to fallen leaders at the Martyrs’ Mausoleum, hoisting the State Flag at half-mast at the Secretariat Office and the government office buildings and holding alms food donation ceremonies.
