Efforts for Smooth Transportation: Roads, bridges under construction in Taninthayi Region

Departments of Rural Road Development in Tanintharyi, Dawei, Myeik and Kawthaung townships under the Tanintharyi Region Road Transport Administration Department and BOD Task Force No. 23 and No. 24 are constructing roads and bridges. Also, the Rural Development Department (Myeik) has been upgrading the Palauk-Palaw section and Myeik-Tanintharyi-HtoneKhar section of the Union Highway.  

For transportation in the Region, there is a Phayargyi-Mawlamyine-Dawei-Myeik-Bokpyin-Kawthaung Road also called AH-112 which can benefit trade sector with neighbor countries. In 2022-2023 fiscal year, there are plans to construct 24 feet wide asphalt concrete road and 24 feet wide asphalt road as well as to expand the 18 feet wide road to a 24 feet wide one. The Department of Rural Road Development (Myeik) manages roads which are 391 miles and 1 furlong long. Myeik is the business hub, trading local products with other countries not only by sea but also by land.

Director, Rural Road Development Dept. (Taninthayi), Thet Zaw Win said "Now, we’re constructing the Htonekhar-Thelphyu-Mawtaung road section which is over 47 miles 1 furlong long. We would like to invite entrepreneurs to discuss this project. This road will be used to support the projects of Dawei deep-sea port."

It’s reported that in Tanintharyi Region, there is a 44 miles and 5 furlongs long ring road on the Kadan Kyun Township. The government has plan to upgrade that road and to build the RC box carpet on the wood bridge of the road in the fiscal year of 2022-2023.
