







The portable woodcarving images with Myanmar traditional designs are now good demand in the market, according to Myanmar souvenir shops in Yangon Region.
The art of woodcarving includes in 10 Myanma arts and crafts and locally made high quality finished woodcarving images are produced by a combination with craftsmanship and technology.
Now, the sale of woodcarving items have resumed as regular in the souvenir market in Yangon and the woodcarvings from respective regions and states are sent to Yangon market.
The wood carvers said that they are carving portable woodcarvings that are liked by foreign visitors now because they are booming in the market and the woods become rare.
And the large images are low demand in the local market. China, Thailand and Laos mostly buy Myanmar traditional woodcarving images and the portable images in 2-ft to 3-ft sizes are mostly put on sale.
For the local market, the large images are carved to decorate in the hotels only when they get order.
The prices of Myanmar traditional woodcarvings range from 5,000 kyats to 5.4 million kyats depending on the designs and sizes and at present, only small images worth around 10,000 to 100,000 kyats are good in demand in the market.
