Preparations Underway: UEC inspects census for election

The Union Election Commission [UEC] is cooperating with the General Administration Department [GAD] and the Ministry of Immigration and Population to implement a ground inspection of the basic census to make sure the voter lists are correct.

At Thuwana Youth Training Center in Thingangyun Township of Yangon Region, the UEC has been carrying out a ground inspection of the household lists of Thingangyun and Tamwe townships with respective organizations on 6th June.

Officer, Yangon Sub-Election Commission, Kyaw Swar Oo said "At Thuwana Youth Training Center, a total of 100 staff from the Union Election Commission and Yangon Sub-Election Commission are carrying out a ground inspection of the basic census within Thingangyun Township. We are inspecting if the household list of the department of immigration and population and the list of ground inspections match together. We have already finished 9 townships of the 45 townships in Yangon Region."

Officer, Department of Immigration and Population, Ye Tun said "In order to have an accurate voter list when holding the election to hand over the State duties to the winning party, we are making a ground inspection of the list of the department of immigration and population, the list of UEC and the list of GAD together if they are actually existing or not. We are starting the Union level pilot project on 6th June. As the Thingangyun Township Office, we have already inspected 13 wards among the 38 wards in Thingangyun Township."

It is known that the Union Election Commission finished inspecting 9 townships out of the 45 townships in Yangon Region.
