California fire evacuation orders still in effect

Firefighters in the coastal community of Laguna Niguel, California, southeast of Los Angeles on Thursday doused the charred and smoldering remains of 20 large homes.

The flames may have been sparked by electric utility equipment were pushed up a canyon by strong sea breezes and quickly ignited large homes.

About 20 homes were destroyed and 11 more were damaged, many others appeared unscathed. Authorities said on 900 residents evacuated from the area and evacuation orders remain in effect. Two firefighters were hospitalized but no other injuries were reported.
