Relatives and rescuers continued to search Saturday for the victims of an explosion at one of Havana's most luxurious hotels, which killed at least 26 people and injured some 80 others.

A gas leak on a tanker truck is believed to be the cause of the explosion in the neoclassical structure located in Old Havana.

The death toll rose to 26, including four children and a pregnant woman and the number of injured reached 80, of which 46 remain in hospital.

At the time, the hotel had no guests or tourists as it was undergoing renovations ahead of a scheduled reopening on Tuesday, after being closed for two years due to the pandemic.
