Myanmar earned $49.9 million from the fishery export during the month of April 2022.

Myanmar mainly exports marine products to over 40 countries including Thailand, China and Middle East countries.

Over 37,000 tons of marine products have been exported during April by water route and also via the border trade camps, especially Kawthoung in Taninthayi Region.

Director, Department of Fisheries, Nyunt Win said “Myanmar marine water is demarcated four fishing grounds; Rakhine (Sittwe), Ayeyarwaddy, Mon and Tanintharyi. The marine products from Taninthayi Region flowed into Ranong via Kawthoung, and the catches from the remaining fishing areas mainly transported to Yangon markets. At present, Myanmar’s marine products are mainly shipped with container boxes by the marine trading.”

The export volume to the major export countries have increased despite a drop to China due to the surge of COVID-19. Moreover, the fisheries export to European countries runs as usual.

Nyunt Win, Department of Fisheries, Director said “There’re over 300 categories of marine products. We are trying to export continuously in accordance with the requirements of the exporter countries. We hope China-Myanmar border gate is possible to reopen soon and small business and the manageable business can be accelerated as COVID-19 positive cases have been dropping in Myanmar.”

The value of Myanmar’s fisheries export in the current mini-budget period from October 2021 to February 2022 generated about $391.07 million.
