Development Projects: 5.9 billion kyats used for dev’t projects in Bago Region

The Department of Rural Development under the Ministry of Cooperatives and Development of Rural Areas has been working on the development projects in Bago Region.

The projects included construction of production roads, bridges, water supply, rural electrification projects and Mya Sein Yaung village development project with the aim to narrow the development gap between urban and rural areas.

Head, Bago Township Rural Development Department, Win Sandar said "A Gravel Road was constructed as the production road of Zaung Tuu canal in ThaBaung of Phayagyi Village. The project was launched on 1st January with 57.33 million kyats surplus from regional development fund. It was cent percent completed on 27th February. The road is 4,800 feet long, 12 feet wide and 9 inches thick. It will benefit for 6 nearby villages and 2,700 acres of farmland, 5,500 households and more than 27,000 residents."

In 2022, the department has already built 26 roads and 23 bridges in 12 townships as well as 12 production roads with the use of over 1.2 billion kyats from the Union budget.

Head, Bago Region Rural Development Department, Myo Aung said "Due to the lack of production roads in the villages, farmers have to spend extra costs during their harvest time for transporting the paddy from the fields to the designated places. So that we have built the production roads in order to reduce the costs for that. Also, Mya Sein Yaung project is being carry out with the allotted budget of 540 million. We have conducted capacity building training for our staff and villagers by spending 20.54 million kyats from the Union Fund. For access to electricity in rural areas, 737.85 million kyats allotted budget have been used for providing facility in 62 villages from 21 townships."

The Regional Government has spent a total of more than 5.9 billion kyats both from the regional and union budgets for development projects in the region during this year.
