






The Department of Electric Power and Planning under the Ministry of Electricity and Energy and Natural Current Energy Hydropower Co., Ltd. signed a Covenant on Implementation of Namatu Hydropower Project on Friday.
The ceremony was attended by Union Minister U Aung Than Oo, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations U Aung Naing Oo, Union Minister for Legal Affairs and Union Attorney General Dr Thida Oo, Union Minister for Commerce Dr Pwint San and officials.
Union Minister U Aung Than Oo said the project could help develop the industrial sector with the sufficient generation of power according to the National Electrification Plan.
He urged the concerned officials to strive for timely completion of the project, and also to promote cooperation between the government and private sector.
He stressed the needs to carry out the tasks following the laws and regulations as well as the customs and tradition of local residents.
The Ministry of Electricity and Energy is implementing the hydropower, solar power and wind power projects by drafting the clean energy policies.
Namatu (Thipaw) Hydropower Project will have 210 megawatts installed capacity and it can generate 1,006 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually.
The project is situated on Namatu River in Thipaw Township of northern Shan State.
