Illegal Trade Eradication: Steering Committee held its coordination meeting

The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee held its coordination meeting on Thursday. Chairman of the Committee, Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council, Deputy Prime Minister Vice Senior General Soe Win attended the meeting and gave a speech.

The Vice Senior General said despite the increases seizures of illegal trading, there are still cases of it that can affect the nation and its economy, it needs to make accelerated efforts for eradication tasks.

Among the seizures included restricted goods, duty free items, explosive materials, chemical raw materials, narcotic drugs and unlicensed vehicles.

Those explosive items, chemical raw materials and drugs could harm the entire nation and if those items were meant to send abroad, it could damage the image of the country.

The Vice Senior General urged all the assigned staff to carry out their tasks strictly and with loyalty. It is learnt that about 6.234 billion kyats worth illegal trading have been seized in 298 cases in January this year, about 3.150 billion kyats in 247 cases in February and about 3.430 billion kyats in 301 cases in March respectively.

Compared to the same period of the previous year which seized 1.815 billion kyats in 501 cases, about 11.089 billion kyats more of illegal trading have been seized with 345 more cases. Moreover, the seizures have been seen in Kachin State and Magwe Region which previous has no seizure.

And also, less seizure has been seen the coastal areas while there are normal seizures in border areas, airports, jetties and in land areas.
