




According to the official of the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department (IWUMD), over 100 acres of floating islands and more than 130 acres of weeds will be cleaned in Inle Lake in addition to dredging silts for the long-term sustainability of the lake in 2022-2023 fiscal year.
Kyaw Kyaw Oo, Assistant Director, IWUMD (Nyaung Shwe) said "Mainly, we are doing the process of the removal of weeds, wild floating islands and water hyacinths, silt dredging and construction of sediment dam. We perform the tasks to dig about 100,000 silt holes or pits during 2022-2023 fiscal year. We will clean up 115 acres of wild floating islands and 130 acres of weeds."
To keep maintaining of Inle Lake, the weed removing process is being conducted in Inle lake to be cleaned and beautifying.
Kyaw Kyaw Oo, Assistant Director, IWUMD (Nyaung Shwe) said "There have been many sediment dams in Inle Lake since long time ago and we make removing silts in the lake. It saves cost in dredging the silts before flowing into Inle Lake than making sanitation in the lake. We remove the silts and sand in waterway, silt control lake and sediment removal dams."
The official of Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department (Nyaung Shwe) said that this sanitation process will support tourism industry and the conveying ceremony of “Phaung Daw Oo” Pagoda in the lake.
