Rio revelers enjoy music at street celebrations

The day after Rio's Carnival was officially inaugurated, carnival revelers took to the streets of Rio de Janeiro on Thursday. Crowds of carnival lovers paraded through the city wearing costumes while drums played the beats.

Rio's Carnival was postponed from February to April when COVID-19 figures skyrocketed with the arrival of the Omicron variant. Before COVID-19 reached Brazil, Carnival 2020 was a witnessed over 7 million person participating which is according to city figures. Nowadays, fewer people are in the streets to participate in the iconic yearly event beloved by millions the world over.
