Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi made remarks during the African Union's mid-year coordination summit held in the Mediterranean city of El-Alamein. President al-Sisi emphasized that cross-border challenges including the management of natural resources and transboundary rivers demand cooperation over competition and adherence to international law rather than unilateral moves.

He explicitly rejected the politicization of water resources and any external interference in African domestic affairs. The summit and subsequent bilateral meetings in Egypt bring together leaders from neighboring countries such as Eritrea, Somalia, and Sudan to address the risk of escalating violence spilling across borders.
