Governor of the US state of New Mexico Michelle Lujan Grisham toured wildfire-affected areas on Friday and met with residents who were impacted by the blazes. At a community meeting in Ruidoso, she also praised volunteers for helping those who were affected by the fire.

At least two people have been killed and more than 200 homes have been destroyed since the wildfires started on Tuesday. Officials have said that the blaze started when strong winds toppled a power line.

More favorable conditions on Thursday allowed helicopters to drop more water on the fire as ground crews secured fire lines. Evacuations remain in place for about 5,000 people.
