


A workshop on legal affairs jointly organized by the Ministry of Ethnic Affairs and the Taninthayi Government was held at the Region Director Office of the Ministry in Dawei on Sunday.
At the event, Union Minister for Ethnic Affairs U Saw Tun Aung Myint said that the Law subject is beneficial to the country and making efforts for ethnic affairs. He also clarified the importance of building trust among the ethnic nationalities to achieve the nation’s peace process. Taninthayi Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko called on the literature and cultural troupes and ethnic people to understand laws and bylaws to be able to carry out smoothly ethnic affairs.
At the workshop, Deputy Minister U Zaw Aye Maung clarified Rights and Responsibilities of Citizens in the 2008 Constitution, ethnic issues in the law protecting the rights of ethnic nationalities, the prohibitions and penalties in the law and the ways to solve the disputes among ethnic people and tribes. Moreover, the Union Minister, the Region Chief Minister, the Deputy Minister and regional ministers met religious leaders and officials of the organization at the guesthouse of the Region Government.
At the meeting, the Union Minister said that the State Administrative Council is focusing on the agreements in the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) for the sake of peace and development of the country.
He also urged ethnic people to participate in Pan Khin project that is important for holding a free and fair multi-party General Election. The religious leaders and officials reported on ethnic issues such as elimination of narcotic-drugs and rehabilitation tasks and appointment of academic officers who can help ethnic language teachers.
After the meeting, the Union Minister, the Region Chief Minister and deputy minister presented a book on Karen National History and English-Sakaw Karen-Western Pwo Karen-Myanmar dictionary books to the religious leaders and officials.
