Irrigation Water Supply: Efforts For Cultivation Of Crops At Full Capacity

Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Tin Htut Oo met with Khabaung Irrigated water users group in the eastern part of Bago region on Saturday evening.

At the meeting, the Union Minister said that the Ministry is fulfilling the needs on cultivation of irrigated areas at full capacity and providing strains and technique for crop yield to have profits for farmers. He called on the famers to cooperate on the tasks of water users group to apply effectively irrigated water and added that the relevant departments will provide assistance on the use of fertilizer for the conservation of soil layer as well as cultivation of high quality crops to increase farmers' income.

To prevent wastage of irrigated water and to use effectively, 59 Water User Groups have been formed in the irrigation system of Bago Yoma Eastern Dam Groups and 2 Water User Associations have been formed in the Baingdar irrigation area and measures are being undertaken to set up more water user groups.

In 2020-2021, 10,570 acres of summer paddy including 1,786 acres of triple crop areas were irrigated. If farmers want to grow more summer crops, the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department has planned to supply irrigated water up to 23,300 acres and it is expected to increase agricultural production more than last year.
