Thousands of refugees have been arriving in Poland daily, traveling around without masks. Since the crisis began in Ukraine, refugees have been allowed to enter Poland without coronavirus vaccine certificates or proof of negative COVID-19 tests.

The head of the Urban Search and Rescue mission which has been observing and treating many of the refugees in the border town of Medyka, said that checking people for COVID had not been the group's top priority.

He said they were mostly treating people with hypothermia, especially small children, and other urgent cases that need attention. The World Health Organization has expressed concerns about the impact of the conflict on public health in Ukraine, including the spread of COVID-19.
